We offer FREE self-guided canoeing and we promote the walking and bicycle tours that may be listed below. Canoe Gowanus Canal for Free events are our estuary stuardship days where you can stop by anytime during the event. Dates with names indicate members who are open to have people join the trip - arrive 5-10 min. before departure. Busy indicates time when canoes are in use but trip is "sold out".

No reservations required, first come, first served and events cancelled if raining 30 min. before start time.

Unless otherwise noted, Gowanus canoeing events depart from 2nd St. near Bond St. Walking tours depart from 9th St. F/G Subway entrance near Smith St. Bicycle tours depart from Brooklyn Borough Hall at Court and Joralemon Sts. We invite you to experience canoeing and kayaking events with the Red Hook Boaters and the Long Island City Community Boathouse

Directions to 2nd St. Canal Launch Site: Take the To F Line Route and Schedule or To G Line Route and Schedule to Carroll Street - exit to front of Bklyn-bound train, cross Smith St. and walk three blocks down 2nd Street to the Canal.
